About Christy

Helping therapists grow in confidence, competence, and connection

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II), EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist, and EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training.

For more than 20 years, I have worked in the mental health field, including 19 years as a school counselor and 5 years in private practice. As the Founder and Clinical Director of Arise Counseling & Consulting, I have also had the privilege of supporting and mentoring clinicians as they develop their skills, confidence, and professional identity. Throughout my career, I have specialized in working with adolescents, anxiety, and trauma, helping individuals navigate challenges, build resilience, and move toward healing.

My passion for trauma treatment led me to EMDR therapy, where I discovered a powerful approach to helping clients move beyond symptom management and address the root causes of distress. As my understanding of trauma deepened, so did my interest in the role of the nervous system in healing. Today, my work is heavily influenced by Polyvagal Theory and other nervous system-informed approaches that help clients and clinicians better understand patterns of protection, connection, and regulation.

Over time, my interest expanded beyond providing EMDR therapy to supporting other clinicians as they develop confidence and competence in trauma treatment, EMDR, and nervous system-informed care. Today, I provide EMDR consultation, clinical consultation, and LPC supervision for therapists seeking support, growth, and professional development.

My Approach

My approach is grounded in the belief that healing happens through safety, connection, and regulation. Understanding the nervous system can help both therapists and clients make sense of their experiences with greater compassion, curiosity, and clarity.

Whether through consultation or supervision, I strive to create a warm, welcoming environment where clinicians feel supported, challenged, and encouraged. I value collaboration, curiosity, and lifelong learning, and I believe every therapist brings unique strengths, experiences, and perspectives to their work.

Rather than promoting a one-size-fits-all approach, I enjoy helping clinicians deepen their clinical thinking, strengthen their skills, and develop an authentic professional identity that reflects who they are as therapists.

I also believe there is tremendous value in bringing newer and more experienced clinicians together. Some of our greatest learning comes from shared experiences, thoughtful discussion, and the collective wisdom of a supportive professional community.

Areas of focus

My work as a therapist, consultant, and supervisor is informed by a deep interest in trauma, nervous system regulation, and the ways people heal and grow. Areas of focus include:

  • EMDR Therapy

  • Trauma and Complex Trauma

  • Parts Work and Ego State Approaches

  • Nervous System Regulation & Polyvagal Theory

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Adolescent Mental Health

  • Attachment Theory

  • Parts Work and Ego State Approaches

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

These perspectives continue to shape both my clinical work and the way I support therapists through consultation and supervision.

Beyond the Therapy Room

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and five children, crocheting, listening to audiobooks, baking cookies, and enjoying bike rides with my family.

I'm also a lifelong learner and am almost always exploring ways to deepen my knowledge and grow professionally. Whether through reading books, participating in trainings, attending educational programs, or exploring emerging topics in the field, I enjoy staying connected to new ideas and developments that support both personal and professional growth.
